KARACHI: A detailed meeting of the Finance Sub-Committee of the Cabinet was held on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing, and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
Provincial ministers Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Saeed Ghani, secretaries of relevant departments, and senior officials also attended the meeting. During the meeting, ongoing and proposed development projects across the province, financial matters, and institutional needs were reviewed in detail. Important financial approvals were granted for various sectors.
Funds were approved for the successful organisation of the 35th National Games 2025 under the Sports and Youth Affairs Department. The aim is to promote sports in the province and encourage youth to participate in positive activities.
Similarly, amendments in the Emergency Flood Assistance Component of the Works and Services Department were approved. Funds were also released to improve rehabilitation and reconstruction work in flood-affected areas.
The committee also approved the establishment of Phase-II of the Thar Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, which will increase access to higher education in underdeveloped areas. Funds were also approved to pay outstanding dues caused by fee exemptions so that educational activities can continue without interruption.
In addition, the committee approved various non-ADP (Annual Development Program) schemes and granted funds to Union Councils to speed up development work at the local level. Funds were also approved for non-ADP projects in Sukkur to ensure the provision of basic facilities. Projects that had not completed legal requirements were also reviewed. The committee decided to delay funding for such projects until the next meeting and directed officials to complete all legal formalities quickly.
While addressing the meeting, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the main purpose of the Finance Committee is to resolve financial issues of provincial institutions on time and remove obstacles in development projects. He emphasized that all funds are approved with transparency and mutual consultation to ensure proper and effective use of resources.
