LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has made it mandatory for food businesses to obtain registration with the authority before applying for registration with the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), as part of the government efforts to strengthen tax enforcement and documentation.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra to review progress on ongoing tax reforms and enforcement measures across the province.

Officials informed the meeting that a comprehensive tax reform system is being implemented to improve enforcement, enhance transparency and broaden the provincial tax base. The meeting also decided to accelerate the campaign against

unregistered service providers operating across Punjab.

The chairman directed enforcement officers to intensify action against unregistered businesses in the services sector to bring more entities into the tax net.

It was further decided that food-sector businesses seeking registration with the PFA will first have to secure PRA registration to ensure proper documentation and compliance with provincial tax laws.

Officials also briefed the meeting on tax collection from government and semi-government institutions and other related matters. Chairman Sipra directed authorities to compile data on businesses that deduct taxes from consumers but allegedly manipulate sales records despite large sales volumes.

The chairman said departmental mechanisms would be further strengthened to improve the legal framework and ensure transparency in the tax system. He also warned that business outlets found involved in manipulation of sales records and repeated violations of tax laws would be sealed in accordance with the law. The meeting was attended by the commissioner enforcement Lahore, member legal, member support services and other officials of the authority.
