The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Friday dismissed reports of a closure at Islamabad’s airspace, saying all flights at the Islamabad International Airport were operating normally and on schedule.

The development came after multiple social media posts claimed loud explosions were heard in Islamabad, and airspace for Islamabad had been closed. Some also reported that two drones had been intercepted in the federal capital.

“Pakistan Airports Authority clarifies that reports circulating about the closure of Islamabad’s airspace are baseless. Flight operations at Islamabad International Airport are continuing without interruption and all flights are operating according to schedule,” the PAA said in its statement.

However, in an earlier statement that was deleted later, the PAA had stated that flight operations at the Islamabad International Airport were briefly disrupted on Friday for operational reasons.

“Due to operational reasons, minor operational adjustments were made to flight operations at the Islamabad International Airport for a short period today. All flights at the airport are now operating as per routine. Passengers are requested to contact their respective airlines for information regarding their flights,” the PAA said in the earlier statement that was deleted.
