LAHORE: Iranian Consul General in Lahore Mehran Mowahid Far has said that the ongoing war has been imposed on Iran and the Iranian people have the legitimate right to defend their homeland and sovereignty.

He remarked that the US military bases located in neighbouring countries could become potential targets, adding that Iran seeks the best possible relations with its Arab neighbours and hopes they understand Iran’s position. The Iranian Consul General expressed these views while talking to a delegation led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza, which visited the Iranian Consulate in Lahore on Thursday. The PPP delegation offered condolences and recited Fateha with the Consul General over the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehran Mowahid Far questioned whether Iran should remain silent if attacked by a neighboring country. He added that Iran is being punished for a crime it did not commit. According to him, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly stated that Iran is not developing a nuclear bomb. He claimed that similar allegations were previously used by the United States as a pretext to attack countries such as Iraq, Libya, and Syria.

The Consul General said Iran has lost trust in the US intentions and criticized Washington’s calls for a ceasefire, calling them “ridiculous.”

He thanked the Pakistani government, authorities, and political parties for expressing solidarity with Iran during difficult times.

He alleged that Western powers do not want strong relations among the Muslim countries and claimed that the United States aims to control oil reserves and promote the idea of a “Greater Israel.” Under such circumstances, he said, Iran has no option but to defend itself. Referring to recent attacks, he questioned as to why a school was bombed, resulting in the martyrdom of 170 girls, and said Iran is facing enemies who target innocent children.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza said the Pakistani people share the grief of their Iranian brothers and stand with the Iranian government in this difficult time.

He said Israel does not want Muslim countries to remain united and praised the Iranian nation for resisting Western pressure. “Every country has the right to strengthen its defense,” he said, adding that Iran is a dynamic and capable nation whose nuclear capability could help maintain balance in the region.

Hassan Murtaza also recorded his remarks in the guest book of the Iranian Consulate. Later, he visited the Iranian Cultural Center, where the delegation was welcomed by Director General Dr Asghar Mosoodi.
