PESHAWAR: Prices of daily important kitchen, including cooking oil/ghee, flour, sugar, vegetable, chicken/live meat and other remained high in the retail market, said in a weekly survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
Rs15 per kilogram increase was witnessed in prices of live chicken/meat, pushing up from Rs345 per kilogramme to Rs360 per kilogramme in the retail market.
However, the prices of farm eggs are consistently decreasing due to weakening demand amid change of weather because of which a dozen eggs were available at Rs220/dozen against the price of Rs360/dozen in the previous week as compared to preceding week.
The rates of meat and mutton beef are still sky-high. Butchers were squeezing consumers with self-imposed prices amid unchecked by authorities concerned, the buyers complained. A kilogram of cow meat without bone was available at Rs1350 and cow meat with bone at Rs1500 per kilogramme against the official rates of Rs900 per kilogramme announced by local authorities concerned, according to the survey.
Mutton beef was being sold from Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 per kg in the open market, the survey added.
Sugar was being sold at Rs 170 per kilogramme, the survey said.
According to the survey, flour prices remain firm, as no significant increase or decrease was witnessed in the retail as well as wholesale market. A 20-kg bag was being sold at Rs2900-3000 while an 80-kg bag was being sold at Rs 12,500 and Rs 13000 per sac in the wholesale market. However, it was noticed that prices of wheat flour and other products like maida, soji and choker flour are still on the rise in the retail market.
Vegetable prices also rallied in the open market ahead of Ramazan. Tomato is being sold at Rs80/kg against the price of Rs140/ kg in the previous week as compared to preceding week whereas onion was being sold at Rs80/kg against the price Rs100/kg in previous week as compared to the preceding week in the retail market whereas ginger was available at Rs 600 and garlic was at Rs300-400/kg in the retail market. Green chilli was being sold at Rs80 per kg, the survey said. Lemon is being sold at Rs120 per kilogramme in the retail market.
Peas was being sold at Rs120-150/ kg against the price of Rs 100/kg, capsicum at Rs 120/kg against the price of Rs 100/kg, lady finger at Rs 200-300/ kg, Arvi at Rs 150-200/ kg, against the price of Rs 120/ kg, turnip at Rs 100/ kg against the price of Rs 70 per kilogramme, Eggplant (bringle) at Rs 100/ kg, Zucchini (tori) at Rs 120-150/kg, Tinda Rs 100/ kg against the price of Rs 80/ kg, cabbage at Rs 120/ kg, red-colored potatoes available at Rs 70/kg while white-coloured potatoes are sold at Rs 50/kg in the retail market, the survey said.
The survey said good quality rice (sela) was available at Rs 360/ kg, while low quality rice was available at Rs 300-320/ kg, while toota rice was available at Rs 200-220/kg.
Prices of pulses remained unchanged in the retail market, according to the survey. Dal mash was available at Rs 480/kg, dal masoor at Rs 320/ kg, dal chilka (black) at Rs 320/kg, dal chilka (green) at Rs 260/ kg, moonge at Rs 400/kg, dhoti dal at Rs 400/ kg, dal Channa at Rs 450/ kg, red bean at Rs 440/ kg, Gram flour (baisen) at Rs 420/kg, against Rs 280/ kg, big-size white Channa at Rs 380/kg, small-size white Channa from Rs 360/ kg.
Apple was available at Rs 400-500/kg, banana at Rs 200 and Rs 250 per dozen, Guava at Rs 300/ kg. Orange was available at Rs 300 per dozen.
