Attacks on Iran: PTI leader criticises govt for ‘hesitant’ attitude

ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday sharply criticised the government for their hesitant and conciliatory stance towards the US and Israeli actions against Iran.

In a statement, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram condemned the lack of direct condemnation from government leaders, asserting that genuine leadership requires courage, clarity, and conviction – particularly in moments of global pressure.

He questioned why prominent leaders such as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari issued statements that were heavy on diplomatic formalities but avoided strong condemnation of the US and Israel.

He also expressed concern over former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s failure to explicitly name the countries involved, highlighting a reluctance to challenge powerful states directly.

He also took aim at PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for remaining silent when directly questioned on the issue, demanding to know why it was so difficult to name powerful nations when principles were at stake.

In his remarks, Akram criticised Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, questioning why there was such reluctance to name powerful states.

He reminded the government of past bold claims, including those made after Pakistan’s nuclear tests, and questioned why such assertiveness had disappeared in the face of external pressure.

The PTI official also reiterated his party’s firm stance against aggression and for the oppressed, affirming that PTI would not yield to external forces.

He added that the political landscape was becoming clearer, with PTI being falsely accused of being an “Israeli agent,” despite its consistent opposition to foreign dominance.

He expressed grave concern over Khan’s deteriorating health, citing a reported 85 percent loss of vision and medical neglect, and called for his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for specialised treatment.
