KARACHI: The government of Sindh has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the entry of protesters into the US Consulate General, as well as, the loss of lives in the ensuing clash and has also formed a high-level JIT for impartial review of all aspects of US consulate incident.

Protesters breached the outer security perimeter of the US Consulate General in Karachi and caused vandalism inside, according to a communiqué shared by a PRO of the Sindh Information Minister.

In this tragic incident, at least six people lost their lives, and several others were injured. The JIT will determine the circumstances in which the incident occurred, its causes, and its underlying factors.

The government respects the democratic and constitutional right of citizens to protest. However, maintaining a peaceful environment is a shared responsibility for all of us. Any form of vandalism, violence, or taking the law into one’s own hands is not acceptable.

The government appeals to citizens to express their emotions only through peaceful and lawful means.

The JIT will also establish how the incident unfolded, what triggered it, and who is responsible. The government intends to maintain control over the situation. All citizens have the right to protest peacefully.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has expressed his deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He said that in this hour of grief, the people of Sindh stand in equal solidarity with Iran and all those who are mourning. The chief minister said that a deeply tragic incident occurred at the US Consulate, resulting in the loss of human lives. He directed that an impartial investigation be conducted into the US Consulate incident. At a time when the country is facing a war-like situation, it is inappropriate to sabotage peace and order, the chief minister said.

He contacted religious leaders including Allama Shehenshah Naqvi, Allama Shabbir Meesami, and others and urged the scholars to ensure that public sentiments are controlled at all costs.

Allama Shehenshah Naqvi and others spoke about holding a gathering (Majlis) at Numaish. The chief minister directed the administration and police to provide full security for the gathering. He appealed to all religious scholars and people of different schools of thought to guide the public toward maintaining peace and order. He also expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the US Consulate incident. The government cannot allow anyone to take the law into their own hands, the chief minister said. He directed the administration and police to ensure that law and order are maintained at all costs.

The chief minister urged the citizens to cooperate and said that the protection of the life and property of the public is the government’s top priority.
