KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Monem Zafar Khan on Tuesday met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh and reached a “principled agreement” to jointly move a no-confidence motion against Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
A JI statement said the meeting, held at Haleem Adil Sheikh’s residence, focused on seeking PTI’s support for the move and reviewing what both sides termed widespread incompetence, corruption, and mismanagement by the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government. PTI assured JI of full cooperation and agreed that a joint strategy would be finalized soon to ensure the success of the motion.
Both parties strongly condemned the arrest of political workers and the registration of terrorism cases against activists of JI and PTI, terming the actions an attempt to suppress peaceful political activity. They said such measures had deepened public resentment and warned that political dissent could not be silenced through coercion.
