LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced the formation of an Adhoc Governance and Management Committee.
According to a PHF spokesperson, this initiative marks a structural shift designed to modernize the administration and elevate the standards of hockey across the nation.
He said legendary Olympians Hassan Sardar and Islahuddin will co-chair the Professional Development Committee. Their mandate includes overseeing national team selection, specialized training protocols, and establishing rigorous benchmarks for coaches and players.
The spokesperson said the long-term management selection will be made by the Professional Advisory Committee co-chaired by former Olympians Islahuddin and Hassan Sardar.
The spokesperson said the PHF has separated corporate governance, marketing, and resource mobilization from technical hockey operations to ensure specialized oversight.
All members of the Governance Committee will work on an honorary basis, dedicating their expertise to reviving and elevating Pakistan’s hockey.
The spokesperson said these structural reforms reflect the PHF’s commitment to transparency and professional merit, ensuring the national game receives the corporate and technical expertise required for a global comeback.
It may be noted that the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Hussain Bugti tendered resignation citing mismanagement by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in handling funds for international tournaments, particularly the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League. His resignation had already been submitted to the prime minister.
Blaming the sports board for the crisis, Bugti said funds allocated for the Pro League were released to the PSB but were not managed properly, resulting in logistical problems during tours of Argentina and Australia.
