ISLAMABAD: At least 66 incidents of crime, including carjacking, robberies and mobile phone and cash snatching at gunpoint, were reported to various police stations in the federal capital during the past week.
According to data collected by Business Recorder, out of 66 incidents of various kinds of crime, 37 were carjacking cases, 12 were street crimes (mobile phone and cash snatching), and 16 were robberies.
The data indicates that during the past week, criminal gangs were mostly active within the jurisdictions of Shalimar, Karachi Company, Industrial Area, and Khanna police stations.
Among the most shocking incidents, unidentified armed robbers broke into a private bank in the heavily guarded Blue Area under the jurisdiction of Kohsar Police Station, making off with over Rs5 million.
According to police sources, three suspects approached the bank’s main entrance and knocked on the door. Once the security guard opened it, the armed men forced their way inside and carried out the robbery at gunpoint.
In another incident, a gang of robbers looted cash, a vehicle, and gold from the house of Ali Saeed in F-10/2.
Three armed men raided the house, held the residents at gunpoint, and gathered them in one place while ransacking the premises. The robbers stole Rs1.65 million in cash, gold weighing eight tolas worth Rs2.5 million, and a Mazda Scrum vehicle valued at Rs4 million.
Another gang of thieves stole gold ornaments from the house of Mohammad Nazir in I-14/3. Police quoted Nazir as saying that two women entered the house on the pretext of seeking work. During their stay, they stole 20 tolas of gold worth Rs7.5 million and escaped.
Moreover, burglars stole cash and valuables worth Rs1.5 million from the house of Faiz Ahmed in Ghouri Town.
During the last week, three cases of robbery, one case of street crime, and five cases of auto theft were reported to Shalimar Police Station.
Another two cases of robbery, one case of street crime, and two cases of auto theft were registered at Ramana Police Station, while one case of street crime and four cases of auto theft were reported to Industrial Area Police Station.
