Work on Faisalabad’s sewage system project has begun, says official

FAISALABAD: Provincial Secretary for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department (HUD, PHED) Noorul Amin Mengal has said that work has been started on Rs 23 billion development package for the up-gradation of Faisalabad’s sewage system. The first phase of which will be completed by June 2026 and the second phase by June 2027. This will provide a sustainable and comprehensive solution to the problems related to the drainage of citizens.

While reviewing the construction work of the underground storage tank at Crescent Ground, he said that according to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, work is underway on Rs 200 billion sewage up-gradation schemes across the province to provide quality water supply and drainage facilities to the citizens and these development schemes will prove to be a game changer for the citizens of Punjab.

Provincial Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal further said that for the immediate drainage of rainwater during the monsoon season, underground storage tanks are being constructed at various places in Faisalabad in accordance with the city’s pending points. The construction of these underground storage tanks will enable the drainage of rainwater in the shortest possible time, which was a long-standing demand of the citizens. He clarified that special steps should be taken for safety arrangements on all development schemes and no negligence or carelessness will be tolerated in this regard. He emphasized that all development schemes should be completed before the monsoon season this year so that the fruits of these development projects can reach the citizens.

On this occasion, Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza briefing Provincial Secretary Housing said that in the second phase of the Punjab Development Program, 4 more underground storage tanks are being constructed in the city, including Crescent Park on Sheikhupura Road, adjacent to General Hospital Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Pakistan Chowk on Narwala Road and Hockey Stadium Medina Town on Susan Road. The cost of construction of these four underground storage tanks has been estimated at Rs 875.70 million and the Crescent Park project will be completed by July 2026, which will enable immediate drainage of water collected in Millat Chowk.
