ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, has taken a key decision regarding net metering applications submitted up to February 8, 2026 directing that all such applications be processed under the previous regulatory framework.
According to the Power Division, the minister has instructed all electricity distribution companies (Discos), including K-Electric, to process and facilitate net metering applications received by February 8 under the earlier regulations. He has also directed immediate implementation of this decision.
The Power Division stated that as of February 8, a total of 5,165 net metering applications had been submitted across all distribution companies, including K-Electric. These applications are expected to add 250.822 megawatts of capacity to the national grid.

“The decision by the Federal Power Minister has removed uncertainties surrounding the pending applications,” the Power Division said.
Leghari further directed that transparency be ensured in the processing of all applications. Consumers have been advised to register complaints through the helpline at 118.
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), in its revised Prosumer Regulations 2026, had already clarified that consumers whose applications were submitted to companies before February 9, 2026, would be granted approval under the applicable framework.
However, despite the notification of the revised net metering regulations, consumers who had already submitted their applications to Discos and K-Electric remained uncertain about the future of their investments.
During a public hearing on the new regulations at Nepra, public representatives, the Pakistan Solar Association, and Nadeem Afzal Chan of the PPP had claimed that Discos had not been entertaining net metering applications for the past two months.
Taking notice of these claims, Nepra Member (Development) Maqsood Anwar Khan had assured that the regulator would take strict action against any Disco found using delaying tactics. However, despite this assurance, the pending net metering applications were not processed.
