KARACHI: The City Administration has fixed the prices of food items during the holy month of Ramadan and the lists of items have separately.

The prices for Ramadan have been fixed in consultation with Chairman Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association, Rauf Ibrahim, representatives of vegetable and fruits traders, Chairman Consumer Rights Protection Council, Shakeel Beg, and representatives of the Committee of Deputy Commissioners, senior officials from the Bureau of Supply and Food Department.

Many meetings were held with relevant authorities and representatives to discuss the matter. The process of fixing prices took into account city rates and current prices.

The Commissioner’s office issued separate lists for groceries, nimko, bakery items and Naan and chappati, and beef and mutton.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has issued directives to all Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to strictly enforce the prices of food items during Ramadan.

In a meeting under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi, it was decided that citizens will be ensured availability of food items at reasonable prices during Ramadan.

A system will be put in place to fix reasonable prices for fruits and vegetables in the sabzi mandi and provide them in sufficient quantities.

All Deputy Commissioners will strictly enforce special Ramadan prices in their districts. Daily checks will be carried out to prevent profiteering, ensuring citizens have access to items at government-fixed rates in the sabzi mandi۔

It was decided that explanations will be sought from officials showing lack of interest in performing their duties regarding price control۔

It was also decided that Deputy Commissioners will set up complaint centers in their districts. To ensure implementation of government rates during Ramadan, 13 major markets in the city will be turned into model markets, which Deputy Commissioners will monitor themselves.

In this regard, Ramadan Counters for food items will be set up at various superstores, where special monitoring will be done with the cooperation of super stores to ensure quality items at reasonable prices. Assistant Commissioners have been asked to oversee.
