LAHORE: Reacting to the recent increase in petroleum product prices, Pakistan Peoples Party Deputy Secretary for Information Ahsan Rizvi has termed the move as “gross injustice” ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.
In a statement Monday, he said raising fuel prices just before Ramazan amounts to dropping an “inflation bomb” on the public. “Every Pakistani will feel the impact of this increase in petroleum prices,” he added, warning that the ripple effects would be widespread across all sectors of the society.
Ahsan said that governments around the world typically provide relief to citizens during religious festivals. However, he criticized the government for moving in the opposite direction by increasing fuel prices at a time when people are already burdened by rising costs. With Ramazan approaching, he said, the hike in petroleum prices would severely disrupt household budgets, particularly for low- and middle-income families.
“Is the government unaware that such decisions are pushing citizens further toward economic insecurity?” he questioned.
Pakistan Peoples Party, he said, not only rejects the increase in petrol prices but also strongly condemns it. He demanded that the government immediately withdraw the hike in petroleum product prices to ease the financial strain on the public.
