KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday inaugurated a family park in Ibrahim Hyderi and laid the foundation stone of the construction project for Mehrunisa Hospital Road.

Speaking to the media, the Mayor said that in the past this area was barren and deserted, but now a bus terminal and public park have been established to provide better transport and recreational facilities to the public.

The rehabilitation of Korangi Causeway Road and the construction of Shahrah-e-Bhutto are also part of the same development process, which has now reached Quaidabad, and the work on the remaining portion up to Kathore is progressing fast. The road will be opened to the public within the next few days.

He said the Sindh government is taking steps to complete development works at a fast pace, and the inauguration ceremony of the Bhains Colony flyover is also expected soon. The bridge has been targeted for completion within one hundred working days.

He said this year will be the year of completion of development projects, and approximately Rs 46 billion will be spent on development schemes in the megacity during the current year. The government of Sindh has allocated more funds for development works.

He stated that 25 new roads will be constructed across all seven districts of Karachi, while the construction of 106 roads, including internal and main arteries, is also part of the plan.

He said when intentions are good, divine help follows.

On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, he said he had sent flowers to JI Amir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman.

The Mayor said that the longstanding issues of Ibrahim Hyderi and Korangi are going to be resolved by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.

It has been decided to reconstruct the PF Gate, which is used daily by hundreds of thousands of people. He said that large hospitals and industrial units are located in the area. Therefore, it was considered necessary to improve the drainage system before constructing the road. Approximately Rs 450 to 500 million will be spent on this project, and the KMC has the required resources.

He further said that 120 pumping stations in the megacity are affected by load shedding and are being solarised in phases to improve the drainage system.

He added that the problems of fishermen are also being addressed. He said that some elements criticise development in the megacity, but practical steps are the real measure of public service. Those who do not live in Karachi cannot understand its civic problems, he said.
