Imran Khan speaks to sons after prolonged hiatus, confirms Aleema Khan

  • Says intentional delay in providing Imran treatment already caused damage to his eyesight

Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has spoken to his sons for the first time after a long time, Imran’s sister Aleema Khan confirmed via a post on social media platform X.

“The Chief Justice of Pakistan had directed that Imran Khan be allowed to speak with his sons. We can confirm that he was able to speak with them for approximately 20 minutes. His sons shared that he was extremely happy to hear their voices after such a long time,” Aleema wrote, while expressing anxiousness over the delay in getting her ailing brother treated by an ophthalmologist after news of Imran’s being on the verge of losing his one eyesight emerged.

“We are now awaiting his urgent medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital Islamabad under the supervision of his personal doctors, where specialist doctors must make every possible effort to restore his eyesight, she stated, adding that the intentional delay in providing him timely treatment has already caused damage to his eyesight.

“We cannot and will not tolerate any further delay, and immediate specialist care is essential to prevent any permanent loss of vision,” she added.

The former prime minister has lost 85% of the sight in his right eye, his lawyer told the Supreme Court on Thursday, an ordeal that adds to legal and political challenges the leader is already battling.

The 73-year-old politico has been in jail since August 2023, serving a 14-year sentence on corruption charges, one of dozens of cases he says were made up in order to keep him out of politics.

“He has been left with only 15% vision in his right eye,” Imran’s lawyer Salman Safdar said in Thursday’s report, quoting the former cricket star turned politician.

The fact-finding report cited Imran as saying he had been complaining about “experiencing persistent blurred and hazy vision” since October 2025, but that jail authorities took no action.

Safdar submitted his report after a two-hour meeting with Imran ordered by the Supreme Court, which set a February 16 deadline for authorities to allow Khan access to his personal physician for the report on his condition.

Imran was taken to hospital this month for a 20-minute eye treatment procedure, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said previously.

Imran’s son Kasim Khan in a tweet on Thursday said they were informed that his father had lost most of the vision in his right eye, with reports indicating only 15% eyesight remained. “This is the direct consequence of 922 days of solitary confinement, medical neglect (denied blood tests) and the deliberate denial of proper treatment in jail,” he added.
