KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party Karachi Chief Organizer Tariq Chandiwala has expressed deep concern over the severe water shortage facing the city’s industrial sector and said that hundreds of factories in Karachi have been closed due to the shutdown of water supply, as a result of which thousands of workers have become unemployed.
This situation does not seem to be a mere administrative incompetence but an organized conspiracy to weaken Karachi economically.
The loss of Karachi’s industries is the loss of the entire country.
He demanded that Karachi be provided with its legitimate water immediately. Water should be supplied to industrial consumers through pipelines, not tankers.
Indiscriminate action should be taken against water thieves and water supply should be restored to industrial areas on priority basis. Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan where industry is the backbone of the country’s economy.
If industrial activities remain stagnant due to water shortage, not only will unemployment increase dangerously but the country’s economy will also suffer irreparable damage. Industries are not able to provide employment.
Most of the youth of Karachi are working as delivery boys.
Tariq Chandiwala further said that forty percent of Karachi’s population gets water from taps. The PPP is not even able to manage it. The federal government’s intervention is nowhere to be seen in Karachi.
The PPP has been imposed on Karachi. The unrepresentative government is not able to understand the problems of the people and the complex situation of industries.
The PPP does not have the capacity to manage the system of Karachi.
He warned that rising unemployment would lead to an increase in crime and the law and order situation in the city could further deteriorate. Depriving Karachi of water is actually tantamount to damaging Pakistan’s economy, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
