ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced compensation for the victims of last week’s suicide bombing at an imambargah on the outskirts of capital, which killed 33 people and injured over 170.
During his visit to the imamabargah, he declared financial assistance of Rs10 million for Oun Abbas, who had heroically resisted the attacker.
He also confirmed compensation of Rs5 million for each martyr, Rs3 million for those critically injured and still receiving treatment, and Rs1 million for those with minor injuries who had been discharged from hospital.
Speaking at the scene, Sharif condemned the terrorists responsible, stating: “These terrorists have no religion and have crossed every limit of cruelty.”
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, adding that the entire nation shared in their grief, deeply saddened by the loss of both elders and children in the attack.Calling it the “worst kind of barbaric act”, Sharif also praised the united stance of religious leaders, who had collectively condemned the atrocity and thwarted attempts to incite division.
He emphasised that the plot to create discord in society had failed.
He extended his appreciation to the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and the police for their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Sharif later visited Abbas’ home to personally offer his condolences.
