LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Information Secretary, Central Punjab, Shehzad Saeed Cheema has strongly criticized the government’s newly-introduced net-metering policy, stating that it is designed to discourage solar energy adoption.
In his statement, he said Nepra’s decision to slash the rates for electricity sold to the national grid amounts to daylight robbery of consumers. Those, who invested in solar energy, are now being penalized for producing affordable electricity.
He added that under the new policy, electricity generated by consumers is being treated on par with government-supplied units, a move that will effectively dismantle the solar energy system. As a result of these regulations, a large number of consumers will be forced to move toward off-grid solar solutions. Addressing the ruling authorities, Shehzad Saeed Cheema said those who once claimed credit for introducing net metering must now also accept responsibility for destroying it.
