Under auspices of PAEC: First-ever Quantum Computing Hackathon being held NCP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has taken a significant step towards advancing frontier technologies with the formal launch of the country’s first-ever Quantum Computing Hackathon under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).

The three-day hackathon is being held at the National Centre for Physics (NCP), Islamabad, and aims to create a conducive ecosystem for quantum research and innovation in the country.

The event has received international support from the United Nations and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), highlighting its global relevance and collaborative outlook. PAEC Chairman Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar, was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by vice chancellors of leading universities, heads of scientific research institutions, representatives from federal ministries, and officials of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.

Addressing the participants, the PAEC chairman said the young researchers taking part in the hackathon represent the future scientific leadership of Pakistan. He underlined that quantum technology is no longer a theoretical concept but has become a practical reality, with a crucial role in addressing the complex challenges of the modern era.

Dr Anwar emphasized that PAEC is making sustained investments in human resource development as a cornerstone of national progress. He noted that the quantum hackathon would help uncover new scientific and technical capabilities among Pakistan’s youth, enabling them to lead innovation-driven solutions to national and global problems.

He also appreciated the collaborative efforts of NCP, PIEAS University, and partner institutions for their role in organizing the event.

“Pakistan is steadily moving forward in advanced scientific and technological domains,” Dr Anwar said, adding that initiatives like the quantum hackathon demonstrate the country’s growing commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation.
