ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) have agreed to deepen institutional cooperation in counter-terrorism, with a special focus on rehabilitation and reintegration of extremist elements, as an IMCTC delegation begins a week-long specialised training programme in Pakistan.
According to an ISPR statement, Major General Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, Secretary General of IMCTC, called on COAS & CDF Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly evolving regional security dynamics and avenues for enhanced cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts. The discussions underscored the importance of collaborative strategies, intelligence sharing and capacity building among IMCTC member states to effectively counter terrorism and extremism.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir appreciated IMCTC’s role in fostering stability and promoting coordinated counter-terrorism initiatives across the Islamic world, reaffirming Pakistan’s continued commitment to collective security and peace.
Major General Al-Moghedi acknowledged Pakistan’s significant contributions and sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism and lauded the professionalism and operational experience of Pakistan’s Armed Forces.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of addressing not only kinetic aspects of counter-terrorism but also the softer dimensions, including de-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration of former extremists into society.
In this context, the ISPR said the IMCTC delegation is visiting Pakistan from February 2 to 6, 2026, to conduct a one-week specialised training programme at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) on “Re-integration and Rehabilitation of Extremist Elements”.
The engagement reflects growing alignment between Pakistan and IMCTC on comprehensive counter-terrorism approaches, combining operational cooperation with long-term capacity building and knowledge sharing to promote peace, stability and security in the region.
