KARACHI: The companies tasked with collecting, picking and disposing of the garbage have been issued notices to immediately formulate a comprehensive strategy to improve their performance by ensuring cleanliness in the city as per fixed standards, including the city’s entrances and railway tracks.
All companies have also been directed to submit a detailed report regarding the full deployment of machinery and staff, and payment of wages to the staff as per the government fixed rate.
Sindh Solid Waste Management Board meeting was held under the chairmanship of its Executive Director of Operations, Ahsan Raza, to review the sanitation matters and make the required interventions to make the system more effective. The meeting was also attended by the concerned officers from all districts of the city and officials of Chinese companies hired for better sanitation of the metropolis.
The Executive Director of Operations told the meeting that the MD, SSWMB, Tariq Nizamani had issued instructions that the standard of cleanliness in the city should be clearly visible and recognized by the citizens. He directed the cleaning of roadsides and the immediate removal of illegal garbage dumps. “All officers and staff of the companies should perform their responsibilities honestly,” he asserted, adding that heavy fines will be imposed on the companies which do not perform as per the agreement.
