TOKYO: Japan’s Nikkei share average ended lower on Friday and posted a second straight weekly decline, as investors sold heavyweight technology stocks to book profits.
The Nikkei fell 0.1 percent to close at 53,322.85 in choppy trade. The index rose as much as 0.4 percent and fell as much as 0.85 percent.
It was down 1.75 percent for the week, but up 4.6 percent for the month.
The broader Topix rose 0.59 percent to 3,566.32 but posted a 1.7 percent weekly decline.
“Investors sold technology stocks to book profits today,” said Takamasa Ikeda, a senior portfolio manager at GCI Asset Management.
“The yen weakened against the dollar, and that could be positive for stocks, but these days those two assets’ moves are not correlated.”
Chip-testing equipment maker Advantest fell 5 percent after a seven-session winning run to drag the Nikkei the most.
