ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on the recommendation of Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Thursday appointed 11 judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and extended tenure of one as additional judge for another six months.
The notification issued by Ministry of Law stated; “In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 193 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Justice Malik WaqarHaider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Ali, Justice Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Justice Malik Javid Iqbal Wains, Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid, Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood, Justice Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Justice Abher Gul Khan as the judges of the Lahore High Court with effect from the date they make oath of their offices.”Through another notification by Ministry of Law & Justice, the President extends the tenure of Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa by extended by six months.
Two weeks ago, the JCP meeting chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi recommended the confirmation of the additional judges as permanent judges of the LHC. In the meeting it was also decided to extend the tenure of Additional Judge Tariq Mahmood Bajwa by six months.
