It is quite unfortunate that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed (PTI) leader of opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai has not initiated any meaningful step aimed at bridging the gulf between incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan and the country’s all-powerful establishment.
Achakzai, who heads the PTI-backed Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP), was nominated by Imran Khan for the role of leader of opposition in August last year, following Omar Ayub’s disqualification. Given his vast experience in the world of politics, Achakzai is still expected to help reduce political instability in the country for he’s armed with necessary abilities and knowledge to achieve such tasks successfully.
He is, therefore, required to act like a bridge, creating connections and fostering dialogue between Imran Khan and the establishment.
Unfortunately, his complacency suggests that the veteran Pashtun nationalist leader has some other plans through which he perhaps seeks to promote polarization and build new walls between an incarcerated politician and the powers-that-be.
