LAHORE: The Lahore police, in coordination with the district administration, have formally launched a public awareness campaign to ensure the safe observance of basant in the city.

A special ceremony in this regard was held at Azadi Chowk which was attended by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Athar Waheed. As part of the safe basant campaign, the city traffic police set up a camp at the venue where safety antennas were installed on motorcycles. The senior officials reviewed the installation of safety rods on motorcycles.

Speaking to the media, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana said ensuring the safety of motorcyclists during basant was a top priority. He said safety antennas would be distributed among motorcyclists through 100 road safety camps established across Lahore under the safe basant campaign.

The CCPO said the protection of life and property of citizens was the foremost responsibility of the Lahore police, adding that motorcyclists would not be allowed to ride without safety antennas during basant. He also announced a zero-tolerance policy against aerial firing and warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators. He expressed confidence that, with public cooperation, basant could be observed safely.

Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan said effective measures were being taken to ensure biker safety and bike protection during the basant. She categorically stated that kite-flying would not be allowed in Lahore district before February 6, 2026. She also announced that a free ride service would be provided in the city to facilitate citizens during the basant days.
