ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States (US) on Saturday agreed to enhance cooperation in bilateral security and border management during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker.

The meeting featured in-depth discussions on strengthening Pakistan–US relations and expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Both sides reviewed progress on establishment of a Centre for Transnational Crime and a training academy within the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with US support.

It was mutually agreed to further strengthen ongoing cooperation under the US Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA) Programme and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).

US offers Pakistan ‘full technical aid’ for counter-narcotics operations, curbing illegal immigration

During the meeting, Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that advanced software would be used to identify individuals involved in crimes abroad. The delegation also discussed training programmes for officers of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Federal Constabulary (FC), and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The two sides agreed to equip border security agencies, coastal guards, and other institutions with modern US-supplied equipment. Naqvi said the use of modern technology would significantly enhance the operational capacity of border security forces and coastal guards.

Interior Minister welcomed US assistance in the reorganization of the FC and in strengthening the capabilities of FIA and NCCIA. He added that US support in activating FIA’s Counter-Terrorism Wing would prove highly beneficial, making it the first federal anti-terrorist wing with effective coordination with provinces.

Naqvi said that the NCCIA is carrying out an extensive crackdown on illegal call centers across the country. He noted that advanced software is vital for preventing financial fraud and terror financing, and US cooperation with NCCIA in this regard is highly significant.

He urged the need to further expand collaboration with Pakistani institutions. The US delegation appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to increase security cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.

The Acting US Ambassador acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and US agencies at various levels and reaffirmed that efforts would continue to further enhance partnership with Pakistan.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Federal Secretary Interior, Director General (DG) FIA, Commandant FC, Additional Secretary Interior, DG NCCIA, DG Passport & Immigration, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Police and senior officials were also attended the meeting.
