LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Health and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the Punjab government is promoting interfaith unity and inter-Muslim unity throughout the province.

“The Punjab government is taking serious and effective steps to establish lasting peace in the province in collaboration with all schools of thought,” he said during a meeting with a delegation of Ittehad-e-Tanazemat-e-Madras at the Interior Department. The delegation included officials from Tanzeemat-e-Madaris Pakistan, Wifaq-ul-Madaris Al-Arabiya Pakistan, Rabeebat-ul-Madaris Pakistan, Wifaq-ul-Madaris Al-Salafiya Pakistan and Wifaq-ul-Madaris Al-Shi’a Pakistan.

Secretary Home Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, Secretary Auqaf Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, Secretary I&C Masood Noman, former Secretary Auqaf Syed Tahir Raza Bukhari were present in the meeting. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the overall situation of law and order in the province, promotion of mutual tolerance and harmony.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said, “Scholars play a key role in promoting peace, tolerance and brotherhood in the society. Maintaining law and order throughout the province is the top priority of the Punjab government.“Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi said on this occasion that respected scholars always teach the lesson of promoting peace and mutual tolerance. Respected Imams of mosques can obtain honorary pay orders and money from their nearest Assistant Commissioner’s office. Educating people about the true spirit of religion is a great service of scholars, he added.

Speaking on this occasion, the religious scholars said that they assure all possible cooperation for sectarian harmony and religious tolerance. Solving problems through dialogue and mutual consultation is the only guarantee of social stability. We welcome the efforts of Punjab Government to create Inter-Muslim Unity, they said.

Prayers were also offered for the progress and security of the country and nation.
