ISLAMABAD: Armed robbers and thieves looted cash and valuables worth millions of rupees, including motorcycles as well as cars, in 55 separate incidents in the federal capital during last week.

According to data obtained by Business Recorder, out of 55 cases, 34 cases involved vehicle theft, including 33 motorcycles and one car. The capital police stations also recorded 12 armed robberies and eight street crimes, during which victims were deprived of mobile phones, cash, jewellery, and other valuables—many at gunpoint.

Some police jurisdictions have emerged as high-risk zones, including areas under Karachi Compnay, Industrial Area, Subzi Mandi, Tarnol and Khanna police stations. Criminal gangs operating in these areas are reportedly becoming more audacious in their activities.

During the last week, a snatching incident was reported in the limits of Industrial police station, where armed motorcyclists calmly robbed a citizen at gunpoint. The suspects snatched two mobile phones, Rs 50,000 in cash, and car keys from the victim before fleeing the scene. The robbers also held the citizen hostage and forced him to provide the passwords to his mobile phones. After committing the crime, the suspects escaped from the scene.

Furthermore, Yasir 22 allegedly committed suicide in Christian Colony, in the limits of Aabpara Police Station. The young man hanged himself. His body was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital for legal and medical procedures, while police have launched an investigation into the incident. The reasons behind the alleged suicide remain unknown.

In the same period, two cases each of robbery and street crimes and four cases of auto theft reported to Karachi Company police station and one case of robbery and five cases of carjacking registered at Industrial Area police station.

In addition, Sabzi Mandi police station registered three cases of auto theft and three cases of street crimes and another three cases of robbery and two cases of auto theft registered at Tarnol police station.
