Yango partners with 15 emergency police helpline to double down on safety

  • Details including the caller’s live location as well as pickup and drop-off locations will be automatically transmitted to Punjab Safe Cities Authority

Ride-hailing service Yango has partnered with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to improve the safety of its drivers and customers. Customers will be able to call the official 15 emergency police helpline directly from within the Yango app.

The call will be routed to the Emergency Response Centre under a priority flag to ensure immediate attention during any unforeseen situations during rides.

Details including the caller’s live location, personal and contact information, partner driver and vehicle details, as well as pickup and drop-off locations will be automatically transmitted to PSCA authorities as soon as a call is initiated.

Moreover, the feature provides users direct access to multiple emergency services, including ambulance support, police assistance, and the Virtual Women Police Station for female passengers.

The integration was developed factoring in common yet crucial steps in emergencies, such as verbally sharing location and identifying vehicle details, that can delay emergency response time.

Yango Pakistan Head of Public Relations Nuzair A. Virani told Business Recorder: “To combat situations where customers are unable to reach the police or feel unsafe during a ride; the tech integration automatically shares all relevant data along with the customer’s live location with the police allowing them to take prompt action, thereby enhancing user safety.“

He said that given the the law-and-order situation in the country, this integration will benefit drivers as well as passengers.

He explained that the Yango app already offers a direct SOS button linked to emergency services, real-time ride monitoring with AI-based alerts for unusual behavior, live route sharing, in-ride insurance, a safety checklist, customer support center.

Yango Pakistan Country Head Miral Sharif said that safety was one of the company’s top priorities.

“Collaboration with law enforcement and Safe City authorities is absolutely essential to building a secure mobility ecosystem,“ she said.
