Siberian winds likely from 4th: Light rainfall brings change in weather conditions
KARACHI: The city saw its first spell of winter rain overnight before the cloudy system moved away towards upcountry areas. The light rainfall brought a brief change in weather conditions across Karachi on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has forecast a northern cold wave (Siberian winds) to grip the metropolis from January 4, which is expected to further lower temperatures to a single digit and intensify the winter chill.
Nearly all parts of the city saw light or moderate rain during the night with a maximum amount of rainfall recorded at 6 mm in Keamari, according to the Met.
Light rain and drizzle were reported in several parts of Karachi drenching the Old City and southern areas, including Lyari, Keamari, and Mauripur. Rainfall was expected to continue through the night and early morning, with light to moderate intensity.
Rain intensified in many areas. Moderate to heavy rainfall was also recorded in other parts such as Saddar, Native Jetty, Burns Road, Kala Pull, Jinnah Hospital, Mahmoodabad, Tariq Road, Akhtar Colony, Federal B Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and parts of Malir while light rain was reported in Defence, Malir Aswan Town, and North Nazimabad.
