KARACHI: “Double-decker buses once again launched in Karachi on Wednesday after 65 years. The efforts were underway to introduce double-decker buses in Karachi in 2026. The service will be available to the public from Thursday (today). From next week, new routes of electric vehicle buses will also be started across the province, including Karachi.”

This was stated by Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, while talking to the media on Wednesday at the launch of the double-decker bus service in the city. Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also joined the ceremony.

Sharjeel Memon said that Sindh government had promised the people that double-decker buses would be on the roads of Karachi in December 2025, and on December 31, this promise has been fulfilled.

He also congratulated the entire nation in advance on the New Year and said that the Sindh government’s effort in the new year is to provide maximum transport facilities to the people of Sindh, starting from Karachi.

He said that as per the vision of the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership, transport is a basic need of the people. Public transport is used for business, employment, and educational activities.

The Sindh chief minister has ensured that transport projects are designed to provide maximum benefit to the public. The aim of introducing air-conditioned buses, low-fare buses, and subsidizing fares is to make public transport more accessible for the people.

He said that around 1.5 million people travel daily in Karachi through the People’s Bus Service, while 75,000 people use the Orange Line and Green Line BRT services. With the integration of these routes, up to 100,000 more people will benefit.

Memon said that public transport facilities are being expanded on different routes on a daily basis. The steps are being taken to introduce bus services on every road of the province.
