ISLAMABAD: A panel constituted by the Prime Minister under the chairmanship of Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazir Tarar is holding extensive discussions to review existing laws aimed at enhancing the legal, regulatory, administrative, and operational effectiveness of district administrations for improved governance and service delivery, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.

The committee has shared a questionnaire with all provinces to seek their input on various enactments and administrative arrangements introduced by provincial governments to address institutional gaps in the governance framework.

However, the sources said, only Balochistan has so far submitted a written response.

A comprehensive response from all provincial governments, as well as from the governments of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will be incorporated into the proposed amendments.

The Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been tasked with compiling a study report on the judicial systems implemented in Malakand, the merged districts, and settled areas.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary, Punjab, and the Chief Commissioner, Islamabad, have been directed to share a comparative chart containing one year’s data and statistics on laws enforced in the Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi.
