Pakistan, Oman navies sign MoU on maritime information sharing

The Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, Rear Admiral Saif Bin Nasser Bin Mohsin Al Rahbi, on Tuesday called on Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security, and bilateral naval cooperation. The visiting Omani naval chief praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Navy and acknowledged its continued role in ensuring maritime security and stability in the region.

Later, Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Rear Admiral Al Rahbi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sharing white shipping information at a ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters. The MoU aims to establish guidelines and procedures for information sharing to enhance mutual maritime awareness.

Pakistan and Oman share geographical proximity with common maritime boundaries. Bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries span a wide range of areas, including economic cooperation, people-to-people contacts, and strong defence ties.

According to ISPR, the two navies maintain close professional relations through expert-level staff talks, training programmes, bilateral exercises, and participation in multilateral naval exercises.
