Bangladesh High Commissioner, NBR delegation visit FBR to boost tax cooperation

Pakistan and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic ties and enhancing cooperation on international taxation.

The development came during a meeting between Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh, and Rashid Mahmood Langrial, Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), in Islamabad.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the long-standing brotherly relations between the two countries and agreed to explore avenues to boost trade and economic collaboration.

A high-level delegation from Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR), led by Muhammad Lutful Azeem, Member (International Taxes), is on a five-day official visit to Pakistan from December 22 to 26.

The delegation aims to initiate discussions on a protocol to amend the existing Double Taxation Convention between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The update will focus on avoiding double taxation and preventing fiscal evasion in line with evolving global standards.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation met with FBR officials, including Iqbal Khan, Member (Administration), and Aftab Alam, Director General (International Taxes). Both sides exchanged views on international taxation and agreed to strengthen institutional collaboration through regular engagements.

The visit underscores the ongoing commitment of Pakistan and Bangladesh to enhance economic cooperation and streamline tax policies for mutual benefit.
