KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority’s technical committee on dangerous buildings has released a list of 715 buildings in the province that have been declared uninhabitable and unusable.

On the directives of Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the process of evacuating dangerous buildings from their occupants and conducting a phased demolition is in progress. So far, many of Karachi’s damaged buildings have been razed to the ground, and demolition work is underway on others.

According to SBCA data, the list of dangerous buildings includes 563 buildings in Karachi, 81 in Hyderabad, 60 in Sukkur, seven in Mirpurkhas and four in Larkana region. Karachi District South has the highest number of buildings to 422, District Central with 72, District Keamari with 28, District Korangi with 18, District East with 16 and District Malir with five.

In the second phase, banners will be displayed on dangerous buildings and announcements will also be made on loudspeakers. This campaign has been launched to raise awareness among the public and warn residents.

The citizens are advised to inform SBCA about any deplorable condition or substandard/illegal buildings in densely populated areas on humanitarian grounds.
