KARACHI: The All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran on Thursday welcomed the formal end of the 10-day nationwide goods transport strike following successful negotiations between goods transporters and the government.
In a statement, the association’s spokesperson Muhammad Ismail Lalporia said the restoration of transport services had removed uncertainty hanging over the country’s trader community and the wider economy. He said the agreement would help stabilize business activity and ensure smoother movement of goods across Pakistan.
Outlining key points of the agreement, the association said the government’s decision to reduce heavy fines on motorways and national highways from Rs 15,000 to Rs 4,000 was a positive step that would help control freight costs. It added that approval of a maximum truck body length of 38 feet would significantly ease cargo transportation for traders.
The All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran noted that the resumption of supply chains would lead to the clearance of thousands of containers stuck at ports, improving the availability of raw materials and essential commodities in markets and potentially easing prices.
