“So the oil sector deal is ongoing with Russia?”
“Indeed it is.”
“Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t Russia heavily sanctioned?”
“Yep, and one has to appreciate the dedicated commitment of the sanctioners to the sanctioned – Russia.”
“I don’t get you.”
“The European Union [EU] is considering the twentieth sanction package, or is it the twenty-first.”
“What makes the EU think that this one will succeed while others have failed?”
“I have it on good authority that a British television channel has done an exclusive…”
“Don’t be facetious.”
“President Trump has filed a suit against the British channel and while everyone is talking of USD 10 billion claim against the channel, the channel itself is claiming half that amount…”
“Maybe Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner…”
“Now who is being facetious.”
“My question is given that we did not flout the US-led sanctions against Iran, and allowed the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project to remain pending to this day, are we now willing to take on the West by not abiding by the Western sanctions against Russia?”
“Perhaps we got a special dispensation from President Trump. I mean Hungary’s Orbán also got a waiver for some time that allowed him to buy Russian oil.”
“Hmmm we do have one leg in each camp – one leg in the China camp and the other in the US camp.”
“We just have to ensure that there is no gangrene on either leg.”
“There isn’t right now, but the leg in the China camp is the good leg, while the leg in the US camp is suffering from the early stages of arthritis.”
“For your information, President Trump wants to normalize relations with Russia, so I reckon your bad leg will have all the anti-inflammatory medication that you may need and…”
“Right, but from our perspective can we forge a deal with Russia and be able to resist the US in case President Trump is angered?”
“Well, even the friendly countries, particularly China, want us to stay on the IMF programme to roll over the 12 plus billion dollars for another year and IMF is a Western…”
“Gotcha.”
