ISLAMABAD: Declining vegetable prices pushed the Sensitive Price Index-based inflation down for the second consecutive week, as it showed a decline of 0.03 percent for the week ended on December 11, 2025.
According to statistics released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, a major decrease is observed in the prices of Tomatoes (16.18 percent), sugar (4.91 percent), onions (4.08 percent), potatoes (1.71 percent), bananas (1.01percent), pulse gram (0.36 percent), pulse masoor (0.10 percent), gur and LPG (0.08percent) each.
On the other hand, a major rise is observed in the prices of chicken (6.19 percent), wheat flour (2.88 percent), eggs (0.93 percent), cooking oil 5 litre (0.72 percent), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (0.70 percent), tea prepared (0.56 percent), powdered milk (0.39 percent), pulse moong (0.37 percent), washing soap (0.20percent),and firewood (0.08 percent).
During the week, of the 51 items, the prices of 12 items (23.53percent) showed an increase, 10 items (19.61percent) showed a decline, and the prices of 29 items (56.86percent) remained stable. The year-on-year trend showed an increase of 3.90 percent. A major jump was observed in the prices of sugar (30.28 percent), gas charges for Q1 (29.85 percent), wheat flour (21.59 percent), gur (14.96 percent), beef (13.42 percent), firewood (12.86 percent), powdered milk (9.46 percent), chicken (8.62 percent), diesel (8.42 percent), lawn printed (8.29 percent), cooking oil 5 litre (7.92percent), and bananas (7.79 percent).
A major decrease was noted in the prices of potatoes (42.59 percent), tomatoes (40.75 percent), garlic (37.46 percent), onions (30.23 percent), pulse gram (28.95 percent), tea-Lipton (17.79 percent), pulse mash (13.33percent), electricity charges for Q1 (8.40percent), and salt powder (5.08 percent).
During the outgoing week, for households spending up to Rs17,732 per month, the SPI-based inflation decreased by 0.96 percent, to 327.70 from 330.88 points.
For the Rs17,732-22,888 bracket, the SPI-based inflation is down by 0.26 percent to 326.84, from 327.70 points of the previous week. Those in the Rs22,889-29,517 expenditure group saw a 0.17 percent decrease to 326.62 from 327.17 points. For the Rs29,518 to 44,175 bracket, the SPI registered is decreased by 0.04 percent, reaching 335.29 compared to 335.44 points previously.
For households with monthly expenditures above Rs 44,175, the SPI recorded 0.53 percent, which rose to 334.10 from 334.03 points. Whereas the combined expenditure SPI went down by 0.03 percent to 335.73 points compared to 335.84 points in the previous week.
