FAISALABAD: Supply chain crisis is fomenting with the continuous transporters strike and it may affect the exports as well as local production, said Imran Mehmood Sheikh, Chairman, Syed Muhammad Ahsan Shah, Senior Vice Chairman and Syed Muhammad Asim Shah, Patron-in-Chief, All Pakistan Bedsheets & Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA).
In a joint statement, they expressed deep concern over the supply chain disruption and said that hundreds of vehicles carrying export goods or raw material have been stranded and factories are not getting the raw material which has badly affected the process of production. Similarly, demurrage and detention charges, with looming threats of loaded containers to miss the ships, have enhanced the chances of cancellation of export orders which are a threat to the textile sector, national economy and foreign exchange.
They said that supply chain disruption is very detrimental and if immediate remedial steps were not taken, the losses may become unbearable causing huge losses to the economy and exports.
They have requested Madam Maryum Nawaz, Chief Minister Punjab to immediately intervene and resolve this ticklish issue. They said that the industrial activities and export orders could only be honoured with uninterrupted movement of raw material and furnishing goods within the country and abroad. The APBUMA is optimistic that the government will realize the gravity of the situation and restore the movement of export containers.
