The Pakistan Navy’s annual Maritime Security Workshop ended on Friday at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, with Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani calling for stronger efforts to tap the country’s blue economy and build up maritime industries, according to the military’s media wing.

In his address as the chief guest, Gilani underlined the rising strategic value of oceans in the 21st century and praised the Navy for its role in regional maritime security.

He urged greater focus on Pakistan’s shipping and fishing sectors to support economic growth and wider socio-economic development, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Gilani was received on arrival by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, while the Commandant of the PN War College briefed participants on the workshop’s main activities.

The workshop, now in its eighth edition, brings together parliamentarians, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, armed forces officers and media representatives to strengthen national understanding of maritime security and emerging trends in the Indian Ocean region.
