PESHAWAR: Former prime minister and convener of Pakistan Awaam Party Shahid Khaqan Abbasi emphasised that economic development is directly linked with political stability because the strength of a country’s economy is deeply rooted in its political framework.

Abbasi here on Sunday addressing the party's function said the party struggle isn’t for coming into power but the purpose of politics is merely to country’s progress and public welfare. He emphasised that the country must be run as per constitution and law; otherwise, difficulties won’t be eliminated.

Former prime minister said the country has plunged into a host of challenges owing to denial of justice and deviating from law. He said rulers have ignored the youth, which is highly unfortunate.

Abbasi said it is unfortunate that institutions were confronting each other and creating hatred. We have always talked about the country’s progress and unity and never abuse anyone, he said. He said the constitution would not give personal benefit to anyone.

He clarified they will not gain support of the establishment, but we will only get it with mass and popular support. He observed that whatever they say today against each other will not give any benefit to the country. He said today only needs to talk about the country. He said issues will increase when due respect was not given mandate.

Former prime minister said if there is any need for Governor Rule in KP so it is in every other province. He said when the quest of gaining power leaves then the issue of Centre and provincial governments will be resolved.

He said changes in the constitution must be in the interest of public opinion and interest.

Former Governor KP Sardar Mehtab Abbasi also addressed the event, stating that Peshawar is the centre of the current political tussle and uncertainty, which had never happened even in military dictatorships. He said political dialogue is eliminating in the country, adding that this ‘new war’ is unfavourable for the country.

Abbasi said it is responsibility of the PM, President and CDF to play a role in eliminating the current political confrontation and tussle. He said the country will be put on the right track when all political parties would accept each other, and institutions work within their limits.
