LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over 42 percent improvements in Lahore’s air quality, compared to last year. She noted that empirical data suggest a clear improvement in the air quality index in 23 out of 30 days of November 2025 compared to last year, as AQI was 453 in November 2024, but it is 261 in November 2025. Moreover, air pollution was at its peak in November last year.

Chief Minister Punjab underscored that historic steps were taken during her one and a half year rule for the improvement of environment. She said that proper legislation, effective implementation of laws, use of modern machinery and technology have played an important role in this regard. She added that for the first time in Punjab’s history, her government has launched a comprehensive vision to make every sector environmentally friendly. She highlighted that measures to protect forests and increase tree plantation have also contributed a lot to improving air quality.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that this improvement in air quality compared to last year is a result of our hard work and cooperation of people, She expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty that a modern forecasting system equipped with technology, monitoring and surveillance is in place, and monitoring of the environmental control systems of kilns and industrial units is ongoing. She thanked people for their cooperation and congratulated all stakeholders on this achievement. Terming it a beginning, she added that environmentally friendly Punjab is the final destination.

Chief Minister Punjab said that supersedes have done an excellent job. 5000 super seeders were in the field, due to which there was a record decrease in the incidents of burning crop residues. She acknowledged that they are entering a different time zone due to decrease in temperature day by day. She added that there is still a lot of work to be done to combat air pollution and smog, requiring full public support.
