ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Monday passed two important legislative proposals — the Federal Prosecution Service (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the National Commission for Human Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025 — with a majority vote.
Additionally, two other bills — the Inter-Boards Coordination Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the General Statistics (Reorganisation) (Amen-dment) Bill, 2025 — were introduced in the House for initial consideration.
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar moved both the passed bills separately. The House approved them with a majority, while two amendments proposed by PML-N MNA Huma Akhtar Chughtai were incorporated into the National Commission for Human Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
According to the statement of objects and reasons for the Federal Prosecution Service (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control currently administers the Federal Prosecution Service Act, 2023, under the Rules of Business, 1973. The amendment bill aims to streamline and strengthen the Federal Prosecution Service to ensure more effective dispensation of justice. The proposal was reviewed and approved by the federal cabinet before its presentation to Parliament.
The National Commission for Human Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025, seeks to insert a new Clause 4A into the National Commission for Human Rights Act, 2012. The newly added clause states: “The Chairperson shall continue to hold office for a period not exceeding one hundred and twenty days or until the appointment of a new chairperson, whichever is earlier.”
