ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza was honoured with a formal farewell at a special ceremony on Wednesday, marking the end of his 40 years of distinguished military service and concluding his tenure as CJCSC.

The ceremony was attended by former chairmen joint chiefs of staff committee and senior military officers from the tri-services, reflecting the deep respect Gen Mirza commands across the Armed Forces.

In his farewell address, he expressed profound gratitude to Allah Almighty for granting him the strength to serve the nation with dedication, professionalism and selfless commitment.

He paid glowing tributes to the Armed Forces for their unwavering sacrifices in the defence of Pakistan and offered heartfelt homage to the shuhada and their families.

He highlighted that amid evolving geo-strategic challenges, a strong national defence remains a vital pillar of Pakistan’s security architecture.

He reaffirmed that the country’s defence is fully secure and that Pakistan’s officers and soldiers stand ever-ready to make it even more formidable.

Earlier, upon his arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters, Gen Mirza was presented a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent.

In a separate statement, the ISPR said that Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Joint Military Exercise Al Battar-II was conducted from 18-26 November 2025 in the Counter Terrorism domain.

Combat teams from the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) and the KSA Army participated in the exercise. Exercise closing ceremony was concluded on 26 November at Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

The General Officer Commanding Special Services Group attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest from Pakistan, while senior military officials from the KSA were also present.

Troops from both brotherly countries demonstrated exceptional standards of professionalism, operational skill, and interoperability throughout the exercise.

The ISPR stated that Al Battar-II aimed at boosting joint proficiency in counterterrorism operations, with a focus on urban combat, countering improvised explosive devices, and refining tactical drills through integrated training. The exercise also served to strengthen the longstanding and historic military-to-military ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

“All training objectives were successfully achieved, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to regional peace, security, and collaborative defence preparedness,” it added.
