Weekly SPI inflation up 0.07pc

ISLAMABAD: Upsurge in the prices of tomatoes, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and sugar kept the Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation in a positive trajectory as it nominally increased by 0.07 percent for the current week ended on November 20, 2025.

Major increase is observed in the prices of tomatoes (57.03percent), LPG (5.16percent), garlic (2.61percent), sugar (2.23percent), diesel (2.17percent), georgette 0.80percent, bananas 0.72percent, tea prepared (0.59percent), firewood (0.26percent), vegetable ghee 1 kg (0.21percent), beef (0.17percent), and mustard oil (0.13percent).

On the other hand, a major decrease is observed in the prices of onions (12.38percent), chicken (8.07percent), potatoes (5.69percent), salt powder (1.67percent), pulse moong (1.62percent), wheat flour (1.41percent), pulse gram (0.81percent), and eggs (0.48percent).

Weekly SPI inflation up 0.53%

During the week, of 51 items, the prices of 16 items (31.37 percent)increased, 13 items(25.49percent) decreased, and the prices of 22 items (43.14 percent) remained stable.

The year-on-year trend depicts an increase of 3.53percent. Major increase is observed in the prices of sugar (43.77percent), gas charges for Q1 (29.85percent), wheat flour (17.31percent), Gur (16.35percent), beef (13.45percent), firewood (12.52percent), bananas (11.81percent), diesel (11.66percent), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (9.04percent), lawn printed (8.29percent), powdered milk (8.17percent) and cooking oil 5 litre (7.75percent), while a decrease is observed in the prices of garlic (36.79percent), potatoes (29.56percent), pulse gram (29.26percent), electricity charges for Q1 (26.26percent), tea Lipton (17.79percent), pulse mash (15.28percent), onions (9.97percent), LPG (5.66percent), pulse masoor(5.08percent), and pulse moong (3.42percent).

For households spending up to Rs17,732 per month, the SPI-based inflation increased by 0.07 percent, up to 329.13 from 328.89 points.

For the Rs17,732-22,888 bracket, the SPI-based inflation up by 0.07 percent to 326.83, from 326.60 points of the previous week. Those in the Rs22,889-29,517 expenditure group saw a 0.04 percent increase to 349.63 from 349.49 points. For the Rs29,518 to 44,175 bracket, the SPI registered an increase of 0.03 percent, reaching 336.82 compared to 336.71 points previously.

For households with monthly expenditures above Rs 44,175, the SPI recorded a 0.09 percent increase to 333.81 from 333.51 points. Whereas the combined expenditure SPI increased by 0.07 percent to 335.54 points compared to 335.31 points of the previous week.
