ISLAMABAD: In a gesture that combined politics with passion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rolled out the red carpet for the cricket teams of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe on Wednesday, hosting a lavish luncheon to honour the squads competing in the ongoing Tri-Nation Series.

The prime minister lauded the spirit, skill, and dedication demonstrated by all three teams, calling their participation in the series a shining example of sportsmanship.

“The players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe have showcased remarkable passion and expertise, which deserves our highest praise,” he said, applauding their competitive edge and professionalism.

He went on to emphasise that the players were not just representing their countries on the field but also upholding the values of respect and camaraderie.

“Let this series be a beacon of sportsmanship and mutual respect, setting an example for our younger generation,” he added.

He also praised the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the flawless execution of the tournament, highlighting its seamless organisation as a key factor in the series’ success.

“Under Mohsin Naqvi, every match has been organised with exceptional planning, strategy, and professionalism,” PM Sharif said, commending the PCB’s pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of the series.

Highlighting the significance of international cricket in Pakistan, he reiterated that the consistent hosting of global cricket events in the country is a testament to Pakistan’s positive image, peace, and stability.

“The ongoing Tri-Nation Series is a reflection of Pakistan’s growing stature as a safe and vibrant destination for international sports,” he remarked.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that this series would not only offer cricket fans world-class performances but also further strengthen the ties of friendship and collaboration between Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.

“Through cricket, we hope to build even stronger bonds of friendship and cooperation between our nations,” he maintained.

PM Sharif also reassured that Pakistan would continue to extend its warm hospitality to international teams, hosting future global sporting events with the same level of excellence.

The event was attended by Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar and Hanif Abbasi, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and the high commissioners of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, among others.
