KARACHI: Captain Haroon Abdullah (Rtd) and Captain Arif Majeed (Rtd) have been elected unopposed as President and General Secretary, respectively, of Pakistan Airlines’ Pilot Association (PALPA).
According to a statement issued by PALPA, all the office bearers and executive committee members, comprising both active and retired pilots, have been elected unopposed. These include Capt Riffat Saeed (Rtd) as Vice President, Capt. (Rtd) Basharat Chaudhry, Capt Abdul Hamid Arif (Rtd), and Capt Fahim Khan (Rtd) as Joint Secretaries and Capt S M Qasim (Rtd) as Treasurer.
It is pertinent to note that The Sindh High Court, in its judgment on H.C.A. No. 83 of 2022, ruled that retired pilots can contest for the Principal Officers of the Association in PALPA, including the post of President.
The Court found no provision in the PALPA Constitution barring retired members from running for these offices and set aside the earlier decision that had prevented them.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Capt Saeed Khan, expressed his gratitude to all PALPA members for renewed trust and support for the incoming Executive Committee. He expressed hope that this confidence will help restore PALPA to its former glory.
