SHIKARPUR: A gas pipeline laid from Shikarpur in Sindh to Quetta in Balochistan exploded near Machh on Saturday, suspending supply to several cities.
Officials of Sui Southern Gas Company confirmed the incident, stating that the gas pipeline from Shikarpur to Quetta exploded, cutting off gas supply to Quetta. They did not give reasons as to what caused the gas pipeline to explode.
Officials said that due to the affected pipeline, gas supply to Mastung, Pishin, and Ziarat was also disrupted, and until repairs are completed, Quetta will receive gas only during meal times.
However, it is not yet clear whether the incident occurred due to sabotage or leakage; the reason will be determined after thorough investigation. It is worth noting that on August 13, 2025, militants blew up a gas pipeline in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police officials had stated that unknown militants had detonated the pipeline in the Bhana Manjiwala area with the help of explosives.
