KARACHI: Spokesman of the Government of Pakistan for Sindh, Barrister Raja Khaliq-uz-Zaman Ansari, in his statement on Friday, expressed his pleasure over the establishment of the Commission for the Protection of Journalists by the Federal Government.
On the issuance of an official notification for the commission by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Friday, he said this body will provide a safe environment to the journalist community.
Barrister Raja Ansari said that journalists’ organizations in the country had been demanding it for a long time.
The commission was formed on the special instructions of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and the efforts of Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. Also, the journalists' community was taken on board. All this, he said, proved that the federation highly values freedom of expression.
The federal government will continue to take practical steps for the freedom of the press and the financial security of journalists. The health insurance system for journalists has also been made more extensive and effective.
“Resolving problems of the journalists is among the top priorities of the government.”
Journalists are a dynamic part of Pakistani society, and it is the government's responsibility to provide them with a safe environment in which they can perform their duties.
